Linux là một trong những hệ điều hành mã nguồn mở dưới dạng Unix do Linus Torvalds và nhóm tình nguyện thiết kế.

Là một hệ điều hành dành riêng cho hệ thống máy PC, Linux chứng minh những thế mạnh của mình như sự hiệu quả, bảo mật tốt và tiết kiệm chi phí. Đặc biệt, người sử dụng Linux có thể tự xây dựng kernel (nhân) cho hệ điều hành bằng cách thêm modul cần thiết.

Linux chính thức xuất hiện trên thị trường vào năm 1991. Trong 20 năm qua, Linux ngày càng thu hút đông đảo cộng đồng phát triển trên thế giới. Nhân dịp này, một video về quá trình phát triển của hệ điều hành này Linux được gửi đến tất cả người sử dụng.

Kết quả này cho thấy cơ sở dữ liệu Oracle Database 11g phiên bản 2 chạy trên máy chủ doanh nghiệp SPARC Enterprise M9000 nhanh hơn tới 2.4 lần so với hệ thống IBM Power 595 và tải toàn bộ cơ sở dữ liệu trong thời gian nhanh hơn tới 3.3 lần so với các hệ thống trước đây trong khi vẫn duy trì được cấp độ cao nhất về bảo vệ dữ liệu với mức chi phí/giao dịch thấp hơn.

Chuẩn đánh giá này nhấn mạnh năng lực của các máy chủ SPARC Enterprise M-series trong việc cung cấp khả năng mở rộng gần như tuyến tính và năng lực xử lý các cơ sở dữ liệu ngày càng lớn được đòi hỏi trong các hệ thống hỗ trợ ra quyết định và kho dữ liệu. 

Cả IBM và HP đều không đạt được cấp độ hiệu năng như vậy trong loạt sản phẩm 3TB trên một hệ thống duy nhất, và điều đó cũng nêu bật hơn nữa các năng lực đảm bảo hiệu năng của các hệ thống SPARC được trang bị nhiều bộ xử lý trong những môi trường ứng dụng doanh nghiệp có đòi hỏi khắt khe nhất.

2011: Năm của các thiết bị giá rẻ chạy HDH Android

Theo nhận định của tờ Digitimes, năm 2011 sẽ là năm của các thiết bị giá rẻ chạy hệ điều hành Android. Các máy Android có giá thành dưới 150$ sẽ được gọi là giá rẻ và họ dự đoán sẽ có khoảng 20 đến 25 triệu máy như thế được bán ra trên toàn thế giới trong năm 2011, tăng gấp nhiều gần so với con số 2,5 đến 3 triệu máy trong năm 2010.

Chính những con chip được sản xuất từ Trung Quốc và Đài Loan sẽ làm cho các nhà sản xuất thiết bị gốc (OEM) lưu tâm hơn đến mảng thiết bị Android giá rẻ dành cho các thị trường mới nổi. Dự báo của Digitimes cũng cho rằng trong số hơn 20 triệu máy thì có 10 đến 13 triệu máy là được tiêu thụ tại Trung Quốc.
